Devon Gabriella is an acoustic indie pop singer from the Bay Area now based in Los Angeles. Her soft tone and sentimental lyrics intertwine impeccably and evoke feelings of longing and heartbreak. She approaches pop music through a singer/songwriter lens with strong lyricism and emotional value. Her music is laced with an element of sweetness and sadness similar to the styles of Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, and Gracie Abrams.

You have a new release titled how could you? Can you share the inspiration behind this new song?

ree

I’ve had a lot of moments in various relationships (romantic and non-romantic) where I find myself literally thinking “how could they do that to me?” As we were coming up with the hook, the words “how could you?” struck us as impactful but simple. David, one of the amazing musicians who I wrote this song with, carried his own experiences with relationship tribulations and we decided to write a song that captures both the anger and sadness one feels after betrayal.

2. Who are some your artistic inspirations or influences? How would you describe your style of music?

ree

Some of my inspirations include Noah Cyrus, Holly Humberstone, Gracie Abrams, Taylor Swift, and Lennon Stella. I’d describe my style music as emotion-driven acoustic pop…if that makes any sense!

What motivates you the most about being an independent musician?

What motivates me is the unpredictable nature of the industry. It takes one video or song to change someone’s life, and everyday I have the opportunity to put a ticket into the lottery.

What lyric do you find the most relatable to your own life that you’ve written?

The music I’ve been writing lately definitely resonates with my life as of recent more than past releases, but if I had to choose a lyric it would probably be “is it my fault? i think i loved you too much”. When I care about someone, I really care about them.

What can we expect from upcoming unreleased Devon Gabriella songs?

I’m so excited for 2023. I’ve been working so hard on finding my sound and writing music I’m proud of. Words cannot describe how grateful I am that people even listen to my songs.
